Tabline Reader Terms

DRAFT FOR ATTORNEY REVIEW. Bracketed items are placeholders. Written to satisfy ROSCA (15 U.S.C. §8403) disclosure and consent elements, the Visa/Mastercard stored-credential consent requirements, Stripe's saved-payment-method terms, and the agent-of-the-payee "payment extinguishes obligation" element, per docs/legal-memo.md §§2, 5, 6. Keep it short; Readers see the key terms again on the card screen.

Tabline lets you read individual articles and buy short passes on participating publishers' websites without subscribing. These terms are an agreement between you and [TABLINE ENTITY NAME] ("Tabline," "we"). By creating a Tabline account or making a purchase, you agree to them.

1. How Tabline works

When you unlock an article or buy a pass, the price is added to your tab. We do not charge your card at that moment. We charge your saved card once, when your tab reaches $[5.00] or [30] days after the first purchase on it, whichever comes first. You can see your tab balance and every purchase at any time at [tab.example/account].

A tab is an amount you owe for purchases you have already chosen to make. It is not a prepaid balance; we never hold money for you in advance.

2. What you are agreeing to when you save a card

By saving a payment method with Tabline you authorize us to charge it, without further action by you, for the purchases you make on your tab, at the times described in §1. Specifically:

You may stop future charges by removing your card from your account, which also stops new purchases. Removing your card does not cancel purchases already on your tab; we will charge the outstanding amount at the next settlement unless you refund those purchases under §4.

We store only a reference to your card with our payment processor, [Stripe]. We never see or store your full card number.

3. Payment to Tabline settles what you owe the publisher

Each publisher has appointed Tabline as its agent to collect payment for unlocks of its content. When you pay Tabline for an unlock, you have paid the publisher. The publisher cannot ask you to pay again for that unlock, even if Tabline does not pay the publisher.

4. Refunds

You can refund any unlock or pass within [24] hours of buying it, up to [3] refunds in any 30-day period, from your account page. A refunded item is removed from your tab; if the tab was already charged, we refund the amount to your card within [5–10] business days. Refunding an unlock ends your access to that article or pass.

We may also refund you if an article is unavailable or a publisher leaves Tabline before a pass you bought expires.

5. Your account

You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email; there is no password. Keep your email account secure; anyone who can read it can use your Tabline account. You must be at least [18] years old and may use Tabline only for your own reading. One account per person.

6. Your information

When you unlock a publisher's content, we share your email address and the purchase details with that publisher, at your direction, so they can provide the access and contact you about their publication. Our Privacy Policy at [link] explains what else we collect and how to exercise your rights.

7. Acceptable use

Don't share unlock tokens or passes with others, automate access, circumvent publishers' access controls, or use Tabline in a way that harms publishers or other readers. We may suspend accounts that do.

8. Disputes with publishers

Tabline collects payment for publishers; publishers are responsible for their content. Questions about an article go to the publisher. Questions about a charge go to us at [support email]; please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank, since a dispute removes your access and may close your account.

9. Disclaimers and liability

Tabline is provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties, and our liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid Tabline in the [12] months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be waived.

10. Changes, law, contact

We may update these terms; material changes take effect [30] days after we email you, and continuing to use Tabline after that is acceptance. [Utah] law governs. [Arbitration / venue clause per counsel.] Contact us at [support email] or [postal address].

Consent text shown on the "Add a card" screen (must stay consistent with §2)

Nothing is charged now. Your card is saved and charged once when your tab reaches $5 or after 30 days, whichever comes first. Purchases appear on your statement as "TABLINE*". Payment to Tabline satisfies what you owe the publisher. You can remove your card or refund purchases within 24 hours at any time from your Tabline account. By clicking "Save card and unlock" you agree to the Reader Terms.

Implementation note: the "Save card and unlock" click, the timestamp, the IP address, the terms version, and the card's last four digits must be logged (the events table) as the consent record Stripe and the card networks require. The current frame.html copy matches this text except the final sentence and the link to the terms; add both.
